Low Back Pain

What can cause Low Back Pain?

Lumbar Disc Herniation

The inner part of disc herniates and leaks through the outer part and aggravates the lumbar nerves causing pain down the leg. Typically bending of spine or coughing through the chest may cause the symptoms.

Sciatica

Sciatic nerve is the largest, thick nerve in the lower limb. When it is slightly compressed the pain remains near the buttock and thigh but when it gets worse then pain goes down the back of leg and foot.

Piriformis Syndrome

The piriformis muscle is located in the deep in the buttock area beneath the gluteus maximus. When it is in spasm it causes buttock pain and compress the sciatic nerve causing numbness and tingling along the back of leg and bottom of the foot.

Spondylolithesis

It is the condition in which one of vertebra is moved forward relation to vertebrae below. Usually happens in the lower lumbar region. This problem may cause the back pain and numbness and weakness in legs.

Facet Syndrome

Facet is the joint between two lumbar bones that makes the lower back mobile. Due to the alteration of gravitational force of upper weight, more stressful compressive force goes through the facet joint, it may eventually cause inflammation of the facet. It is characterised by bending backward aggravates pain and bending forward relieves pain.

Spinal Stenosis

Stenosis often occur in the lumbar region. It could be congenital or degenerative form. It is defined as a narrowing of bone tunnel occupied by the spinal nerves or spinal cord. The narrowed tunnel compresses the nerves and spinal cord causing radiating pain, weakness or numbness relating to which service is compressed.

Degenerative Spinal Disease

It occurs after repetitive wear and tear of joint structures commonly causing pain in the low back and especially stiffness in the morning.
